In Art pupils work through individual programmes of study towards achieving their Arts Award. Pupils are given the opportunity to work in both 2D and 3D using paint, pencil or pastels, clay and mosaic as appropriate.
Pupils have the opportunity to develop their own interpretations of Street and Urban Art looking at Graffiti and stencil making. They are taught to use tools appropriately, skilfully and safely including scalpels, finger knives and spray paints. Pupils provide their own creative stimuli and subject matter and are able to take home completed, high quality work on canvas or other media. All pupils understand that in Art we never make mistakes but can always create opportunities for learning.
Pupils learn Art theory and history including a brief history from cave painting to modern graffiti. They will be given the opportunity to experience the work of Turner prize winning artists Chris Ofili and Grayson Perry and a diverse range of world Artists such as Lui Bolin (China), Yayoi Kusama (Japan) JR (France) Frida Khalo (Mexico) KAWS (USA).
Pupils develop effective communication skills in articulating their opinions in terms of artistic judgement and taste
