Careers Provision

Reach Academy is dedicated to raising aspirations, challenging stereotypes and inspiring students to achieve their full potential. We are committed to delivering an aspirational, personalised careers programme to all our pupils, working towards the Gatsby Career Benchmarks. Reach Academy is committed to our duty to provide students with impartial and inspirational Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) to students. The impact of our program is tracked and measured via the Compass tracking tool.

We offer a variety of educational visits / off site provisions. Many of these will give students the opportunity to have encounters with employers.

In lessons pupils are presented with different career options linked to each curriculum subject throughout the year and we host a variety of different employees who will discuss their roles and work opportunities within their industry. Projects and creative curriculum topics based around pupils’ careers interests. Students will have the chance to interact and try different industries.

A scheme of lessons through the year in PSHE will be dedicated for pupils to research the labour market, identify their career aspirations, talk to a key worker about this and research an appropriate pathway. Careers themed nurture breakfast where different future opportunities and aspirations are discussed with pupil take place each half term. These are used to inform future careers conversations.

Pupils in year 9 discuss options for their next stages of education and visit potential schools and have the opportunity to attend careers open days if applicable.

Tracking and Evaluation Arrangements

Reach Academy keep systematic records of careers experience and the Academy uses the Compass Tool to track its progress against the Gatsby Benchmarks. The Careers Leader has responsibility for completing the Compass Tool on a termly basis and uses this data to identify areas for further development.
