Reach Academy recognises the importance music can play in school life and a child’s development. Music has the capacity to aid self-esteem, develop individual confidence, progress inner creativity and provide opportunity for challenge and achievement. In recognising that, pupils at Reach learn new skills, knowledge and understanding reinforcing the fact that Music is not only a practical subject but also academic.
The Music curriculum at Reach is purposefully blended to offer pupils an eclectic learning experience, offering more traditional learning styles using traditional instruments such as keyboards, guitars and percussion to music that gives pupils the chance to perform using steel drums, online studios and recording equipment; all with the intention of engaging pupils and offering a new insight in to music they may not have previously experienced. This variety therefore aims to support the embedding of musical devices such as pitch, tempo, dynamics, rhythm, performance, literacy and composition skills whilst also developing music vocabulary – supporting literacy across subject.
